New directions in regional and cultural Studies are the topic of intense debate among representatives of the field of teaching German as a foreign/second language. At the international research conference on Regional and Cultural Learning in the Context of Globalization: Between Theory and Practice in March 2016 at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) a special emphasis was placed on the way that different structures of thinking, meaning patterns and worldviews can be implemented and dealt with in foreign language teaching. The volume at hand unites 18 conference contributions and additional articles that discuss the state of regional and cultural learning from the most different perspectives and depict a broad spectrum of the most different approaches and areas of operation of our field.
